The Tragedy at New Town has reinvigorated a group of Americans who would see the availability of guns diminished. The picture shown above seems to carry a pro-gun message. A young caucasian male is seen carrying a sidearm in what may be a coffee shop or bakery. The warm lighting and welcoming environment help to disarm the viewer.
The young man carrying the pistol in the photo is wearing a black polo and dark rimmed glasses which seem to portray a sense of astuteness and responsibility. There also appears to be an older gentleman in the background also carrying a sidearm. He is wearing a white collared business shirt and dress slacks. Once again the characters chosen complimented by their surroundings certainly promote a feeling of security and not of fear.
Those who would oppose and resist the right of their fellow citizens to carry guns in public often discuss it as an entirely dangerous venture. The picture is painted of a trigger happy populace itching to make a power statement with some fire power. This image we see above is very much so in contrast to that idea. It is warm, safe, and promotes the idea of the socially responsible among us being armed and powerful to fortify a peaceful community.

This is a great picture of what could happen with the safe protection of guns. Keeping guns allowed is an important thing to keep in this country for the safety of everyone around us!
ReplyDeleteThis controversial issue hits home since I am from Connecticut. I've seen first hand what the tragedy in Newtown did to the school systems structure and how it shook the state and country to its core. I'm not saying I believe gun control is the answer, I believe that a stricter system is in order, but not one that creates complete control.
ReplyDeleteThis photo is very interesting because at first glance it seems to be a very casual photo of a deli or coffee shop. Upon further inspection you see that both men are armed. I think it is interesting that they chose to show two males, instead of including a female. Also, both men are slender, look as though they have it all together, and are in a very safe looking environment. This is a very pro-gun picture for sure!
ReplyDeleteI like your choice for visual rhetorical analysis. It is refreshing to see a photo that isn't trying to provoke us into seeing gun carrying citizens as being "trigger happy" and irresponsible. I'm not saying that gun control is right or wrong, but I do enjoy your analysis.
